Voice Department

Welcome to the Audio Departments Voice Submission page. Here you may upload a demo or ask questions specific to voice-over topics (located below). Here are a few questions and answers that we are frequently asked:

Q: Is there Pay?

A: Yes and No.

  • No: Some productions are produced specifically for the PlayStation Community theaters. All of the actors in these productions are directly from the gaming community and they do not have professional experience. Members participate on a volunteer basis but receive ‘silver screen’ credits for their involvement. The production process from start to finish, including the premiere events are unlike any activity offered in the gaming industry; an experience worth it’s weight in gold.
  • Yes: We currently hold several contracts to produce game trailers, instructional videos, audio commercials as well as character voices for video games. It is here where the professional voice talent is needed. Paying customers usually run a tight schedule and turn-around is rather quick. Using members from the community base is always our first choice but training and development on a paid job isn’t something we have time for, plus, our clients need professional, polished work. These jobs do not receive acting credits and are most always without PST name branding. Standard industry rates apply.

Q: Can a professional VO actor participate in community productions?

A: Yes. Participation in community projects is both fun and exciting. Most community projects are showcased within the SONY PlayStation Network and sometimes the SONY Entertainment On Demand platform with a combined audience base estimated at over 22 million. Real name credit is allowed as well as a copy of the production for demo purposes. Productions of this type will always have the “armature” edge but professionals are welcomed. Note: Community productions require a ‘Right to use Likeness” Agreement and is only offered to Non-union talent.

Q: If I want to participate in a project, do I have to join the site?

A: For paid projects (not community projects) No, you do not have to register with PST. If you wish to volunteer as a community actor, Yes, you must join. Communication is key when it comes to community productions and working with the team as a whole is important.

Q: Do I have to own a PS3?

A: No. As a voice actor, voice is all that is needed.

Q: Are there any fee’s, due’s or membership costs to join PST or HOME Network?

A: No. PST is a free social site (free of advertising as well) and HOME is a free social network for owners of a PS3.

Q: How do I know when a Voice Acting job is available?

A: For the community productions, a ‘casting notice’ is usually posted on the site. It is our goal to post these notices as often as possible with specific role details. For paying jobs, you may be contacted directly or announced via Twitter. Its always best to keep an eye on the site.

Q: I just want to be involved, are there any positions open other than Voice Acting?

A: Yes. PST is in needed of volunteer Voice Coaches. Many of our members have little or no voice acting skills but almost all are eager to learn. Some are students, parents or industry driven in other areas of production but desire to learn voice. It is our goal to hold weekly script reading sessions where our members can meet on Skype and rehearse their craft. Voice Coaches will also receive their very own Voice Page where they can post vital information related to voice techniques and tips.
