Welcome to the PSTALENT FAQ page!

Here are some answers to some Frequently Asked Questions:

[tabs] [tab title=”General”] [toggle title=”What exactly is PSTALENT?”]

PSTALENT started in August of 2009 with the goal of producing short-story animated videos filmed in PlayStation Home, casting members from the community known as the “talent.” PSTALENT.com, the website was launched to serve as a platform for talent to communicate, making it the hub for production.
In 2011, Sony signed PSTALENT to broadcast video entertainment to the community of PlayStation Home. PSTALENT is also a licensed PlayStation publisher, designing and releasing 3-D digital merchandise that can be purchased by the community to further enhance their gaming experience.
In late 2013, PSTALENT launched the first “community” radio in PlayStation allowing user-generated content to be shared in Home.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”What is machinima?”]

Machinima is defined as “animated filmmaking within a real-time virtual 3-D environment”. Video game-play captured in PlayStation Home is considered machinima.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”Is PSTALENT a Home Publisher?”]

Yes. PSTALENT is licensed to publish digital assets in North America and Europe.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”Do you work for Sony?”]

No. PSTALENT is a privately owned company and licensed by Sony to publish and broadcast in PlayStation Home as an independent contractor.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”How do I file a complaint against another member? “]

You may contact the Director via private message here: @admin or submit a contact request here: Contact

[/toggle] [toggle title=”Can you make a video for my club or fam? “]

Unfortunately: no. We have stacks and stacks of scripts waiting to be produced and our focus must remain on those. One of the projects we have planned is a show which will feature community clubs and Home events.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”Does PSTALENT have a Home club to join? “]

Yes. We have specific clubs in Home used for casting and usually list the club name with the announcement. Because of the size of our base, it’s impossible to add everyone to one single club so we have a few floating around. The AD’s also have Home clubs so you might want to check with them. To learn more about Home clubs or to add yours, click here: Home Club

[/toggle][toggle title=”Are there meetings I must attend? “]

Generally: no. Casting calls, auditions and rehearsals are usually the only meetings to attend and posted periodically.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”Does PSTALENT have any regular activities or events? “]

Yes. PST premiere events are some of the most popular in all of Home and fun as heck. We like to call our premiere events (when we launch a new video in Home) regular but they’re not exactly planned out for the year. We usually post an announcement on the site, so keep on the lookout for those. Also, our Casting Director is also the Event Director, COCOBABY_84, and she plans all kinds of great events. If you would like to join the event planning committee or more information on the next event, visit her profile and send her a message: @nicole

[/toggle] [toggle title=”Can you play my video in PlayStation Home? “]

Yes, we can, and we want to if it meets the criteria. Showcasing user-generated content, no matter whether it comes from the community of PSTALENT or not, deserves a chance on the silver screen and we’ll be happy to review it. If you would like your video to be considered for broadcast, please review the guidelines here: Machinima Guidelines

[/toggle] [toggle title=”I have a good idea for a video. To whom should I speak? “]

First and foremost: write a script. If you don’t know how to write one, search Google for “How to write a short-story animated script” and you’ll receive a ton of great leads.
Adobe® Creative Cloud has a wonderful “free” script writing program; part of a “free” membership. You can learn more here: Adobe®Story Free
Once your script is complete, you can submit it to any one of the Associate Directors here: ADs. Keep in mind, we do have our hands full and there’s no guarantee that we’ll produce it, but we should be able to give it a review.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”Does PSTALENT accept virtual item suggestions from the community? “]

Yes. PSTALENT is happy to consider original item suggestions. It’s always best to attach concept art, such as drawings or pictures, with your suggestions. There’s no guarantee we will develop it, but we’d love to see it. You can submit content here: Creative

[/toggle] [toggle title=”I need help with the EOD channel. To whom do I speak?”]

EOD is managed by LOOT Entertainment. You can visit their suggestions page for EOD tuning here: LOOT Entertainment

[/toggle] [toggle title=”Can I put PSTALENT on my resume? “]

Yes. Many people have added PSTALENT to their resumes. There are significant skills and a great deal of responsibility involved in being part of this production team, so yes, you can. For corporate information on PSTALENT, please click here: Contact

[/toggle] [toggle title=”Do I get paid for acting? “]

Not at this time. PSTALENT acting roles are on a volunteer basis. If there is ever an opportunity to work for pay, it will be announced.

[/toggle] [/tab] [tab title=”Management”] [toggle title=”What is a Department Director? “]

Department Directors are usually responsible for overseeing a specific department for which they have experience in. Department Directors are hand-picked by the Director, usually someone who has been involved with PSTALENT for a while and are considered important assets to the mission and culture of PSTALENT. Department Directors are an extension of the Director and empowered to make decisions as well as enforce policies and procedures as outline in the sites Terms of Use.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”Who are the Department Directors”]

Meet the Department Directors: Meet the Team

[/toggle] [/tab] [tab title=”About Director On Duty”] [toggle title=”I sent the Director a friend request but he hasn’t accepted, why? “]

The Director uses his DIRECTOR_ON_DUTY name for filming; it’s been like that since day one. With so many members on PST and so little room on a friend’s list, he needs to keep a good number of slots free. If he adds you, please understand it’s only temporary because he needs to make room for the next shoot. Please don’t take it personally – there’s just no other way of doing it.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”Does the Director us other names in Home? “]

Yes:
PS_TALENT_AGENCY DIRECTOR_1 PS_TALENT_EU (Europe) PS_TALENT_USA (Japan)

[/toggle][toggle title=”Is the Director the only one who makes films? “]

No. Films produced by and for PSTALENT are referred to as “original” films, most of which are produced by the Director himself. But PSTALENT also broadcasts videos produced by other directors referred to as Associate Directors (ADs). ADs write their own scripts, cast their own actors and most have their own production companies. ADs are hand-picked from the community, based on the quality of their work, commitment to Home and PSTALENT and willingness to teach the craft. If you would like a list of ADs, you can find them here: AD List

[/toggle] [toggle title=”Can the Director make a special appearance at my club or event? “]

If time permits, yes. If you would like to have the Director, the Junk Guy or another PSTALENT character make an appearance at your next event, you may submit a request here: Contact. Please do not take it personally if he cannot attend: he tries his best, but he’s a pretty busy guy.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”Has anyone ever seen the Director in person?”]

Yes. COCOBABY_84, CorisuCat, KoZzZMO, Animus_Requiem, Trooper001K, theBeGGarMan and several others have met the Director in person. If you want to know more, you’re welcome to ask them because believe it or not, the Director is a shy kinda guy and he ain’t showing his mug to anyone.

[/toggle] [/tab] [tab title=”Voice Acting “] [toggle title=”Do I need previous voice over experience to participate?”]

Absolutely not. PSTALENT prides itself in encouraging all members to try new things. Anchoring a news show or voicing a lead role goes to a voice that best fits the character – experience isn’t something that determines that for us. However, most experienced VO talent have the right recording equipment, which is very important.
If you are serious about participating as a voice actor and would like to know what kind of equipment is required, please watch this video here: Video

[/toggle] [toggle title=”What are the different types of roles for Voice talent?”]

[/toggle] [toggle title=”Do we work from scripts? “]

All PSTALENT original productions start with a script. Scripts are absolutely necessary for telling a story. Most of the time, a script doesn’t need to be shared with an avatar appearing in a video, but if you are voicing a role, you can expect to get a copy.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”How often do we rehearse? “]

It all depends on the nature of the script. Voice talent will always rehearse. Avatar acting: not so much unless it’s a choreographed routine or technically challenging and calls for practice.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”Do I need a Skype account to rehearse? “]

Yes. We do not use Home to rehearse or record. You are welcomed to add PSTALENT to your Skype friends list: ps.talent.agency

[/toggle] [toggle title=”I would like to submit a demo reel. To whom do I send it? “]

You can submit your demo reel here: Creative

[/toggle] [toggle title=”What is a demo reel? “]

A demo reel is used to showcase your voice, usually a montage of commercials, readings or characters you have played. It helps a casting director decide if your voice is good for the part, usually starting with an audition or test sample. Demo reels are very helpful for PSTALENT but not mandatory. If you are considering a voice acting career in the real world, then a demo reel is a good idea.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”What kind of microphone do I need? “]

For actual recordings used in a video, most definitely not a headset mic. Headset mics are good for Skype rehearsals but not actual recordings. For video work, there are several microphones that will do the job; some are inexpensive while others can be pricy. It really depends on where you see yourself going as far as a career. For starters, we suggest starting with something less expensive. Please take a look at this video here: Video

[/toggle] [/tab] [tab title=”Membership”] [toggle title=”Do I have to join the PSTALENT website to be in a video? “]

Yes. PSTALENT only uses talent from the website unless it is a special guest.

[/tab] [tab title=”Virtual Acting “] [toggle title=”Do I need to have experience to participate in a video? “]

No experience necessary.

[/toggle][toggle title=”Do I need to stay active to be in a video? “]

Yes. We have many actors waiting patiently to be in a video and they are constantly checking in and participating on The Wire. When we post a casting notice, they’re usually the first to know because they see it. We always make our best effort to cast those who have never been in a video, but unless you’re active on the site, how will you know when we cast?

[/toggle] [toggle title=”What is a casting call? “]

A casting call is a notice made to the PSTALENT community that we’re looking to fill roles (avatar acting, voice and fashion) for a production. They give detailed information about the production that includes dates, times, wardrobe, gender, location and other useful information to help the talent decide if it’s a good match.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”Where do I find the latest casting calls? “]

Join the newly created ‘Casting Calls’ group. When a casting call is posted, you’ll receive an alert via email. Follow the link to the ‘Casting Calls’ group and review the post. You can join the group here: Casting Calls

[/toggle] [toggle title=”How can I contact a Casting Director? “]

The Casting Director for PSTALENT original films is COCOBABY_84. You can send her a private message via her profile here: @nicole For the ADs casting department, you can contact any of the ADs here: ADs

[/toggle] [toggle title=”Is there a limit of how many roles I can play? “]

No. We try to fill each role giving everyone equal camera time but some roles are recurring . If two people are up for the same role, it will usually go to the one with less camera time. Having the right attitude is very important in the casting process; we will not give in to divas or prima donnas and we don’t take bribes.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”Why am I always overlooked for an acting role? “]

In most cases, it’s likely because of scheduling conflicts. Unfortunately, members must be online and available in order to shoot and though we try to schedule shoots during Home’s busy hours, it doesn’t always coincide with everyone’s schedule.
If you feel you are being passed up for personal reasons, you are welcome to contact the Director by sending him a private message here: @admin

[/toggle] [toggle title=”If I get a role, do I have to play both the avatar and voice? “]

No. We try to issue as many roles as possible so one can act the avatar and someone else can do the voice. We will never require an actor to voice a character if they don’t want to.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”If I’m given a code for an item that hasn’t been released yet, can I use it in public view? “]

If you are given a code for an item that hasn’t been released yet for the purpose of appearing in a promotional video for that item, you may be asked not to reveal it in public until the video airs or the item is available in stores.
If you win a code for a soon-to-be-released item as a prize from a promotion held at a public event, on PSTALENT.com, social media or the official PlayStation forums, you’re free to use the code as soon as it’s active.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”What is an Associate Director? “]

An Associate Director produces Home content and submits it to PSTALENT for broadcasting. Associate Directors must be approved before they are accepted.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”Can I work with any Associate Director? “]

As a member of PSTALENT, yes, you can. Some ADs require exclusivity while others allow you to participate because you are a member of PSTALENT. Be sure you ask the AD what their policy is when accepting a role. PSTALENT accepts all avatar talent and doesn’t require exclusivity, only membership. Voice roles must be exclusive to PSTALENT.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”What are the guidelines while on set? “]

Filming is serious business and though we preach fun at all time , we ask that you tone it down and focus during a filming. We only have a short window to capture the shots, so please pay attention. Here are some universal guidelines set by all Directors:
  • Be on time.
  • Never leave your controller unattended during filming.
  • Be respectful to others while on set.
  • Do not interrupt the Director when filming.
  • Focus, focus and focus.

[/toggle] [toggle title=”On average, how long does filming last? “]

That depends on the type of video being filmed, but they usually last about 2 hours.
