Okay so, I’ve gotten several questions lately about the equipment I use to record voice overs here at PSTalent. Well, after a couple of long emails to the inquiring minds, I thought it might be easier if I just show a few pics of my setup. You by no means need this much equipment to record your voice but it helps! JK!! Actually, a $79 USB mic a computer and some recording software is really all you need to sound good. Anyway, sorry for the low quality of the pics but my iphone’s camera leaves a lot to be desired (I really only use it for a guitar tuner anyway… yep, there’s an app for that LOL).
CAUTION! GEEKY AUDIO TALK BEYOND THIS POINT! You’ve been warned.
The console is a Tascam M-3500. It’s an analog board. I only use it when I’m recording bands… it’s not needed
when I do voice overs. I also have a Mackie 32-08.In the rack starting from the top is a Valley 400 mic processor. It has compression, EQ and a noise gate.
Next is a regular run of the mill headphone amp. It has 6 outputs and each performer can adjust his or her
headphone volume independently. Then, I have 2 Fire Studio Project sound interfaces. Each has 8 analog mic/line inputs and several digital
inputs (same for the outputs). All of the analog inputs have phantom power for condenser microphens. The cool
thing about these interfaces is that you can chain them together to create more ins and outs! Right now they
are running separate one for my MAC and the other for my PC.Below that is a 24 channel patch bay that is really only there to take up an empty rack space and to hold
some 1/4″ adapters that I cant seem to lose no matter how hard I try LOL!
Not shown are some DBX compressors and EQ’s and a BBE sonic maximizer.Recording software that I use is Logic pro 8 on the mac and Sony Sound Forge 9 and Sony Vegas 9 for the PC.
Again, you don’t need all of this stuff to record decent voice overs… but it sure is fun play with it!
Now THAT is pretty awesome Koz. I work with similar over the weekend, so I must say that I’m pretty impressed with what you’ve got setup in your home! Love it. =D
Thanks Cat!! Did you do some recording over the weekend?
